The last emperor of the Roman Empire
There are many legends about the wonderful effect of the water in the lake of Hévíz and one of them corresponds to Theodosius the Great who was born as Flavius Theodosius. According to the legend the little Flavius was a scrubby boy suffering from poliomyelitis but after taking a bath in the lake he recovered his health and later he became one of the most influencing emperors of the Roman Empire.
The legend says:
"The Holy Virgin began a fountain hearing a Christian nurse’s pleading prayer. The nurse wanted to heal a paralysed child. The warm water of the lake flushing from the depth and the steaming mud healed completely the thin, scrubby body of the child."
The fountain still feeds the lake of Hévíz which is unique in this world.
:: According to a legend, Flavius Theodosius the last emperor of the Roman Empire (reigned from 379 to 395), who suffered from Poliomyelitis, was healed by the water of Hévíz spring.
